Saturday Presentation: Heart to Heart is a School based social program that focuses on re- engaging youths who have faced great challenges in their lives.
The program incorporates art, youth workers, health workers and mentoring, with the final culmination of a self-fundraised humanitarian journey to Vietnam, where the girls finally take their newfound art and life skills and share them with children from an orphanage in Vietnam, simultaneously donating significant funding to the orphanage. The program is a holistic and life changing event for all involved, revolving around the power of art for healing, social enrichment and personal development.
Donna Rankin is the founder of Heart to Heart. Her role is to run and co-ordinate the program within the School, within the community and with the Orphanage School in Vietnam. She work closely with the young people chosen for the program acting as art teacher and mentor.
Heart to Heart was founded in 2012 and evolved from the school based art program Donna created and has been faciliating in Forster schools over the previous 5 years . The initial program was making positive impact on the participants however she saw a need for a more intensive longer lasting connection with the youths. After a trip to Vietnam and a meeting with the inspirational director of the Vung Tau Orphanage she saw a powerful way to really change the lives of young people both here in Australia and in Vietnam.
Heart to Heart has had great positive impact within the Forster community and has been supported whole heartedly. Heart to Heart has been supported by the Layne Beachley Aim For The Stars Foundation, Dick Smith Charitable Fund and the Greater Building Society.
