John Hayes has worked in Sydney, as a volunteer in various community and school organisations for more than 40 years. He has worked in various industries and positions including senior management in national organisations including CBS Records – then the biggest record company in the world -now Sony Music; Executive Director of the Australian Record Industry Assoc ( ARIA ); and The Taxation Institute of Australia (TIA ) – which had 10,000 members; and then self employed for about 20 years in Life Insurance, Superannuation and Financial Planning.

Retired to Newcastle in 2004, and joined many community, climate and environment, and planning organisations; and Catholic Social Justice Groups; and served in executive positions in most of them.

I have been married to Rosie for 40 years. Five married children, and five young grandchildren, so far; for all of whom we must make every effort to protect the Planet

We have renovated, restored and extended about eight tired old houses – 6 in Sydney and 2 in Newcastle; getting better each time in incorporating more and more sustainable features.

Turning 70 soon, and optimistic, that with the big changes now being seen in many governments world wide; encouraged by the UN, The World Bank, Pope Francis and other world leaders, we will make the changes necessary to halt runaway climate change and global warming – but maybe only just in time.
