Annie Kia

Annie has strong faith in collective intelligence. With threats to our life support systems and to democracy, she believes we need to deepen social movement know-how, so that a great many of us hold it, and strengthen it, together. For the last several years she had a national role in Lock The Gate alliance, helping communities mobilise to defend what they love from gasfields and coal. She co-developed Gasfield Free Communities – a process of grass-roots democracy that has spread across Australia.

We’re at a threshold now, with climate breakdown and other big worrying threats all around. What’s our story? Retreat? Action? Distraction? Despair? How do we re-write our story, and connect our heart, our head and our hands? This is the focus of Annie’s workshop ‘The Fire and the Practice’ … re-writing our collective experience, using story.

Annie’s work is informed by complexity and network theory, and by an understanding of movement power and collective action. Her blog is Networked Agency.

We’re at a threshold now, with climate breakdown and other big worrying threats all around. What’s our story? Retreat? Action? Distraction? Despair? How do we re-write our story, and connect our heart, our head and our hands? This experiential workshop is for anyone who feels deep disquiet at our situation, and is willing to explore, together, our collective story.
