Rev. Dr Jason John: Sacred, scientific, sustainability stories: mine, and yours.
Jason brings his studies in zoology, environment and theology to his role as Uniting Earth Ministry Consultant, and they form the basis for his own musings at ecofaith.org His PhD explored the connections between evolution, ecology, environmentalism and faith. Jason has been a uni chaplain, an environment officer in the Qld Uni Student Union, and a researcher for the Queensland Synod bioethics committee, as well as a congregational minister. He has started a couple of ecofaith outdoor worship communities as part of his ministry with the Uniting Church, and lives on the edge of a forest in a little house with his family, and many neighbours: including goannas, echidnas, koalas and snakes. Since the kitchen has no walls, bandicoots often visit, followed by the carpet snake who likes to eat them.
Jason has produced a number of clips on youtube exploring ecology, environment, evolution and faith (see youtube)
Sacred, scientific, sustainability stories: mine, and yours. Workshop synopsis: Last time we gathered Jason shared 4 stories of the future found in the sciences and religion. This time he tries to integrate the scientific and Christian stories into a coherent tale of our past, present and futures. It’s payback for setting that topic as an essay for his students last year! Then the group will have a chance to critique his story; think about the key elements they would include in their own; and produce an outline of a group story of the universe. For people of all faiths or none.
