John and Rosie Hayes: 50 simple steps to sustainable living; and transitioning to renewable energy.

John will present the topics: Our Sustainable House; The Power of Two; 50 Simple Steps to Sustainability; Transition to Renewable Energy. John and his wife Rosie are active with Environment, Climate Change and other groups in Newcastle and the Hunter. John has been the principal organizer of two Major Seminars and Forums on Global Warming, Climate Change and Transition to Renewable Energy for the Social Justice Council of the Catholic Diocese in Maitland Newcastle, in 2008 and 2015. John also presents on Sustainability and Renewable energy for other groups.

John and Rosie retired to Newcastle in 2004, leaving behind in Sydney, their 5 adult children. They have been active in Sustainability and Solar PV and hot water installations in their last 2 homes in Newcastle. They have renovated and restored more than six older houses in Sydney and Newcastle over the last few decades, using sustainable principles including: no air conditioning, effective insulation; roof whirlybird vents and static light wells in some houses; shading with deciduous vegetation; chasing the winter sun; and breezes all year round – except on the hottest days.
